The Finger of God
The Yod ("Finger of God" or "Finger of Fate") consists of two planets sextile to each other (60°), both making quincunx aspects (150°) to a single apex planet. The apex planet sits at the "tip of the finger" and becomes the focal point of the entire configuration. The Yod describes a life theme requiring constant, often uncomfortable adjustment — the two base planets support each other harmoniously, but their combined energy flows awkwardly into the apex, demanding ongoing recalibration.
Reading the Yod's Three Points
The two base planets (sextile to each other) describe resources and capabilities that work well together. The apex planet describes a life area of compulsive focus, repeated adjustment, and a sense of special mission or burden. The sign and house of the apex planet reveal where the native feels "pointed" — directed toward a purpose that feels both compelling and hard to fully express. The sign opposite the apex (the reaction point) often offers the most natural release of the Yod's tension.
Yod as a Life Theme
People with a natal Yod often describe a feeling of being "fated" in some area of life — a recurring theme that resists resolution and demands perpetual adjustment. When transiting planets conjunct or oppose the Yod's apex, the configuration becomes especially active. Unlike the T-square, which drives toward action, the Yod drives toward refinement and adjustment. Its energy is best honored not by forcing resolution, but by accepting the ongoing nature of the adjustment it requires.
