Concentrated Energy in One Area
A stellium is a cluster of three or more planets in the same sign or house (most astrologers require at least three, some require four). The stellium creates an overwhelming emphasis in that sign or house — the native's life is strongly colored by the sign's qualities and the house's life themes. Whatever the stellium touches becomes a major preoccupation, a dominant narrative, and often both the greatest strength and most significant challenge of the chart.
Sign vs House Stellium
| Type | Emphasis | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Sign Stellium | Sign qualities | Personality strongly colored by that sign |
| House Stellium | House life area | That life domain constantly active and prominent |
| Sign + House overlap | Both | Intensified on both levels |
Working With a Stellium
Identify the stellium's sign and house, then examine each planet individually — they each add their distinct flavor to the concentration. The lead planet (the one nearest the beginning of the sign or house) often acts as the spokesperson for the stellium. Challenging stelliums (involving Mars, Saturn, Pluto, or Chiron alongside personal planets) can describe periods of intense difficulty in the relevant life area. Transits through the stellium's sign or house trigger all the planets in sequence — watch these as particularly active periods.
