What Parivartana Yoga Means
Parivartana Yoga (परिवर्तन योग) is an exchange of signs between two planets — each sits in the other's ruling sign. It is a powerful and often overlooked yoga. When two planets exchange, they effectively act as if they are conjunct in both houses simultaneously. This exchange creates a deep connection between the themes of the two houses involved. The quality of the yoga depends entirely on which houses are exchanging.
Types of Parivartana Yoga
| Type | Houses Involved | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Maha Yoga | Kendra ↔ Trikona | Raja Yoga-like power |
| Kahala Yoga | Kendra or Trikona ↔ 3rd | Stubborn strength, courage |
| Dainya Yoga | One house is Dusthana | Difficult, stressful results |
Reading Parivartana in Practice
First identify all sign exchanges in your chart. Then classify: if both houses are Kendra or Trikona, you have a powerful Maha Parivartana. If one is Dusthana (6, 8, 12), it is Dainya — likely to bring challenges in both house areas. The exchange activates during the Dasha of either participating planet. In Dasha of planet A, planet B's themes also come forward. This is one of the most significant timing triggers in Vedic astrology.
