The Nine Grahas of Jyotish
Navagraha (नवग्रह) means "nine planets" — the seven classical planets plus Rahu and Ketu (the lunar nodes). Every Jyotish chart is built on the Navagraha: their signs, houses, strengths, and mutual relationships determine all predictions. Rahu and Ketu are not physical bodies but mathematical intersection points of the Moon's orbit with the ecliptic. They have no sign rulership but carry intense karmic weight.

Working with All Nine
In every reading, assess all nine Grahas, not just the prominent ones. A weak planet ruling a key house matters as much as a strong one. Check relationships between Grahas: natural friends and enemies listed in classical texts determine how planets behave when conjunct. Pay special attention to the Lagna lord and the planet ruling the current Dasha — these two carry the most weight in determining the quality of life at any given time.
